Our History

Victory Thru Jesus was begun by Charles and Kathy Strother in 1991 after a life-changing experience on a mission trip to work with the youth at a Youth With a Mission base in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The goal was to further the Kingdom of God by fulfilling Jesus’ commission to spread the good news.

The ministry has conducted summer Bible camps at the Strothers’ farm in Delaplane, Virginia, to evangelize youth and train youth leaders. Victory Thru Jesus has held youth discipleship camps and taken youth leaders on evangelism mission trips, primarily in South and Central America. It has also brought youth from Brazil and Jamaica to the U.S. for Bible camps and evangelism training. In July 2007, the Strothers traveled with five young adults to participate in the Youth Power Invasion in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Victory Thru Jesus also directly supports missionaries, such as the Palhares family who served in Cape Verde, Africa, and Suzie and Paul Parker who work with youth in Blountsville, Tennessee. In addition, the ministry helped Pastor Luis Almandoz’ ministry “The Hope of His Calling” build a church and a Christian school in Nicaragua.

Charles and Kathy Strother

For the past 20 years, Charles has operated the family farm in Delaplane, Virginia where he grew up. A graduate of Randolph Macon Academy and Virginia Tech, he served for three years as an officer in the U.S. Army Infantry and 20 years in the Army Reserves.

He spent 25 years in the life insurance industry, owning a life insurance agency and holding the Chartered Life Underwriter designation. During this time he managed Little League baseball teams and served as a Cub Master and Scout Master with the Boy Scouts for 10 years.

Charles also attended Virginia Theological Seminary, taught Sunday School and served as a home church leader. He is currently a licensed minister with the Apostolic Network of Global Awakening. He and Kathy have two grown sons.

Kathy grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and graduated from Stafford Senior High School and Virginia Tech. During her college years she worked as a playground director in her community each summer.

From a very young age, Kathy became aware of a strong call to serve the Lord. She received Biblical training through the Bible Club movement and many seminars and conferences she has attended. She taught elementary school and Sunday School, worked in the summer with Children’s Sand and Surf missions and held neighborhood Bible clubs.
